Virginia's standards of Learning

Beginning this school year (2006-2007), in accordance with the federal mandates of No Child Left Behind, Standards of Learning testing in Virginia will now include the following:

Algebra I - End of Course for students enrolled in class

End of Course - same for all students seeking Advanced or Standard diploma

Literacy and Numeracy testing for Modified Standard diploma students

With the exception of the high school which is on 4 X 4 blocking, these tests are given in late May. The test may cover all standards listed on the current blueprint for your student's grade level. High School End of Course tests are given in December and late May each school year.

These are used to determine your student's competency with the standards, the school's Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) under No Child Left Behind, and state accreditation. These tests also determine summer school placement (elementary and middle schools), and verified credits towards graduation (high school).
