MELODIES

Melodies description:  Melodies is a choir of about 50 children from six elementary & two middle schools, 4th through 6th graders.  The Melodies program takes place after school on a once a week basis throughout the school year.  This year Melodies meets every Wednesday afternoon, 3:30 to 4:30 at Critzer Elementary School in the Little Theatre.  There are two major touring performances with one scheduled for winter and the other in the spring.  During their performance seasons, Melodies gather for scheduled performances in addition to their weekly rehearsal times.

Melodies audition process:  The process for gathering a pool of nominees for the Melodies Program for the musically talented relies heavily upon the music teachers in our schools.  They listen to their students sing throughout the school year and then in the spring, and nominate those who have shown aptitude and interest in singing.  Community members or parents also may choose to nominate particular children based upon their outside knowledge of their singing abilities (from church or other occasions.)

In May, auditions and interviews are scheduled.  The interviews are conducted by gifted program staff.  The auditions are held by selected judges, judges with expertise and experience in music.

Melodies staff:  Melodies is supported by the resources from the gifted office as well as two professionals who co-manage the program.  This year, they are:   Debbie Neal conductor; and Pattie Blouse, accompanist.

Thanks to parents:  Melodies parents are a huge part of the support team that makes Melodies run smoothly.  The staff of Melodies and Pulaski County’s Gifted Office, wish to heartily thank the dedicated parents of Melodies choir members.

Contact information:  Melodies is sponsored by the Gifted Program and any questions can be directed to the Gifted office at 643-0786.
