Superintendent’s Message

10/11/23

As we conclude the first grading period today with a 3-hour early release of all Pulaski County Public School (PCPS) students, I wanted to provide our school community with the following information:

1.     Thank you to our students, staff, school community members including but not limited to our law enforcement agencies, fire departments, local businesses and county administrators for a wonderful opening to the 2023-2024 school year. We have had some challenges since school opened on August 10, but we have all worked together as strong Pulaski County family to provide a school culture and environment that is safe, welcoming and inviting for all. We appreciate all of your efforts to help our students have all they need to achieve and succeed at the highest levels.

2.     Please remember that we take threats against our school division, schools, employees and/or students very seriously. Anyone making a threat against the school division, schools, employees, and/or students, whether it is during the school day or outside of the school day will face serious consequences such as loss of privileges, suspensions or even expulsion for 365 school days. PCPS, law enforcement and fire department organizations have worked extremely hard to create a very safe school environment, and threats like we had toward the end of this first grading period caused panic and chaos and will not be tolerated!

3.     Important Dates:

a.     Thursday, October 12 – Schools closed for students. Teacher workday from 8:00-12:00 and teacher conferences from 1:00-6:30

b.     Friday, October 13 – Schools closed for students. Professional Development for staff from 9:00-12:00

c.     Monday, November 6 – Schools closed for fall break (11/12 month employees work)

d.     Tuesday, November 7 – School closed for Election Day Holiday

e.     Wednesday, Tuesday, November 21 – 3-hour early dismissal for Thanksgiving Break

f.      Thursday, November 22 and Friday, November 23 – Schools Closed for Thanksgiving Break

g.     Wednesday, December 20 – Last day of the semester (3-hour early release)

Thank you again for a wonderful opening of school. We look forward to an outstanding second quarter grading period filled with many student successes and achievements!
