Riverlawn Elementary School is proud to recognize their selections for 2022 Employee of the Year and Teacher of the Year.

The 2022 Employee of the Year for Riverlawn Elementary School is Debbie Smith. Mrs. Smith is a wonderful paraprofessional. In fact, the majority of the staff at Riverlawn calls her the school grandma. She retired from a long career in leadership and management and decided to fill her extra time doing what she does best, spoiling children. She loves all the students in the school and sincerely cares about the children she supports. Mrs. Smith is very generous and does extra special things for the students in our school. For example, she purchased a book for every child in the class she supports during a school book fair.  Mrs. Smith shows kindness to all the people she comes in contact with during the school day. She is willing to do whatever is needed to help. The love bursts from Mrs. Smith’s heart when she is surrounded by our preschoolers. Any classroom she goes into, the students run for a hug. She is a hard worker, dedicated and faithful para-professional of RES! The students and staff absolutely love her!

The 2022 Teacher of the Year for Riverlawn Elementary School is Ms. Katherine Phillips. Ms. Phillips teaches Kindergarten at Riverlawn Elementary School.   She has been teaching for five years.  She values lifelong learning and is currently working on her graduate degree in reading. Miss Phillips puts her students first and works to meet their individual needs. She is calm and patient, and always offers an encouraging word. She builds positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues. Ms. Phillips is creative and looks for new teaching strategies. She adapts to changes in the classroom and puts her students first above all needs. She can overcome any obstacle or challenge that comes her way and she strives to help each of her students succeed in and out of the classroom.
