The Pulaski County golf team opened the River Ridge District season in winning fashion, capturing the first tournament of the year at Auburn Hills Golf Club in Riner.
The match, originally scheduled for 18 holes, was shortened to nine due to heavy rain. After a delayed start caused by a downpour and with more rain in the forecast, players teed off only to be met with another burst of showers. The Cougars stayed steady in the wet conditions, playing some of their best golf as the rain fell.
When the scores were tallied, Pulaski County posted a team score of 157 to take first place, ahead of Hidden Valley (161) and Blacksburg (162).
Cayden Mines led the way for the Cougars with a 38 on the par-36 layout, finishing third individually. Will Rackaway and Evan Singleton each carded 39s to tie for fourth, while Boone Blevins shot a 41 to place 14th. Hidden Valley’s Harris Camp and Salem’s Mike Bateman shared medalist honors with even-par rounds of 36.
The victory marked Pulaski County’s first win in a full district match involving all seven teams since 2002, giving the team an early boost of confidence for the season ahead.
