The Cougar Swim Team opened its season on Saturday, December 13, at the SWVA High School Invitational. Competing against swimmers from 19 other schools, both the boys and girls teams delivered strong performances and brought home several ribbons.

Meet highlights included:

  • Elenore Speed placed 8th in both the 50 freestyle (28.71) and the 100 freestyle (1:04.53)

  • The girls 200 freestyle relay team of Elenore Speed, Josie Hamblin, Charlie Hamblin, and Eden Bowman finished 10th (2:09.64)

  • The boys 200 freestyle relay team of Isaiah Kilbourne, Daniel Moncure, Camden Matney, and Matthias Wright placed 15th (2:17.43)

  • Josie Hamblin finished 15th in the 100 breaststroke (1:35.47)

  • Charlie Hamblin placed 16th in the 50 freestyle (29.92)

The team continued its season on Tuesday, December 16, with another strong showing and several standout races.

Notable performances included:

  • Elenore Speed, Josie Hamblin, and Charlie Hamblin swept the top three spots in the 50 freestyle, finishing 1st, 2nd, and 3rd respectively (28.71, 29.66, 29.92)

  • Elenore Speed placed 3rd in the 200 individual medley (2:49.08)

  • Josie Hamblin and Charlie Hamblin placed 3rd and 4th in the 100 breaststroke (1:33.32, 1:36.91)

The Cougars will return to action on January 20 at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center, with the meet beginning at 6:30 p.m. Swim meets are free to attend, so come out and cheer on the Cougar swimmers!
