For Taryn Blankenship, the transition from the Blue Ridge Mountains of Pulaski County to the hardwood of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference has been defined by one thing: constant progression.
The 6-foot forward, once a multi-sport anchor for the Pulaski County High School Lady Cougars, has evolved into a cornerstone for the Ferrum College women’s basketball program. Now in her senior season, Blankenship is posting career-high numbers that justify the high expectations set during her prep days in Dublin.
Blankenship’s journey to Ferrum wasn't a straight line. After graduating from Pulaski County in 2022—where she earned a $112,000 scholarship and signed a National Letter of Intent alongside teammate Ally Fleenor—she began her collegiate career at Concord University.
During her freshman campaign at the West Virginia institution, Blankenship appeared in 13 games and earned her first collegiate start. However, a move to Ferrum for the 2023-24 season proved to be the catalyst for her breakout.
As a sophomore for the Panthers, Blankenship transitioned from a role player to a reliable starter. She signaled her arrival with a 17-point, seven-rebound performance against Virginia Wesleyan, establishing herself as a physical presence in the paint with a soft touch from the perimeter.
High school coaches referred to her as “a versatile athlete," noting her time spent on the soccer field and basketball court. That athleticism has translated into a high-efficiency game at the college level. She developed a work ethic that has carried her well into the college ranks.
Now a senior, Blankenship is currently averaging 14 points per game. Her 2024-25 campaign was highlighted by a career-high 19-point outburst against Maryville College, a game in which she shot a staggering 80 percent from the field. Her consistency earned her a selection to the All-Tournament team at the Susan Dunagen Holiday Classic.
As the 2025-26 season progresses, Blankenship’s efficiency remains her calling card, shooting 80 percent from the free-throw line and anchored by a veteran poise that has Ferrum competitive in a tough ODAC landscape.
For the Pulaski County native, the stats are a reflection of a work ethic that started under the lights of Kenneth J. Dobson Stadium and inside the Cougar Den. From a Lady Cougar standout to a Ferrum leader, Blankenship continues to prove that her ceiling is nowhere in sight.
