From the Burgundy and Vegas Gold mats of Pulaski County to the collegiate stage in Winchester, Xavier Ramsey’s wrestling journey has been defined by a steady climb and a historic triple-digit milestone.

Now a sophomore at Shenandoah University, the Pulaski native is carving out a role in the Hornets’ 133-pound weight class, carrying with him a legacy as one of the most successful lightweights to ever come out of Pulaski County High School.

Ramsey’s high school career was nothing short of historic. A four-year varsity standout for the Cougars, he capped off his prep tenure in 2024 by joining the program’s exclusive "100-Win Club." The milestone came in dramatic fashion during the Region 3D semifinals in February 2024, when Ramsey pinned Nathaniel Muncy of Cave Spring to secure his 100th victory. He didn’t stop there, following up the milestone by pinning his way through the finals to claim the 120-pound Region 3D championship. Ramsey 3

He finished his high school career with a total of 105 wins, placing him among the all-time greats in Cougar wrestling history. Over four seasons, Ramsey’s resume grew to include two Region individual titles (2021 and 2024) and two runner-up finishes (2022 and 2023). He was also a perennial state qualifier, highlighted by a sixth-place finish at the VHSL State Championships as a freshman in 2021.

His win total could have been higher were it not for the shortened season caused by the COVID-19 pandemic during his early high school years.

Transitioning to the collegiate level, Ramsey took his talents to Shenandoah University to wrestle for the Hornets while pursuing a degree in Chemistry.

As a freshman during the 2024-25 season, Ramsey adjusted quickly to the rigors of NCAA Division III wrestling. Competing at 133 pounds, he posted a balanced 7-7 record, including notable performances at the Shenandoah Invitational and in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) duals.

Now in his sophomore season (2025-26), Ramsey continues to test himself against a grueling schedule. According to current team statistics, he holds an 8-13 overall collegiate record (1-6 this season), as he works to find his footing against veteran conference opponents.

While the jump from high school to college presents a steeper climb, Ramsey’s track record suggests he is no stranger to the grind. From a 106-pound freshman in Dublin to a 133-pound sophomore in Winchester, the "Chemistry major with a 100-win pedigree" remains a key figure to watch on the mats for the Hornets. Ramsey 4
