From the soccer pitches of Dublin to the collegiate stage at Bluefield University, Sara Cox has carved out a reputation as a cornerstone of the Rams' offensive strategy. Now a junior, the Pulaski native is proving that her local roots were the perfect training ground for collegiate success.

Cox, a 5-foot-2 forward, has become a consistent threat for the Rams. After a breakout sophomore season where she was named the team’s Offensive Player of the Year, she entered the 2025 season with high expectations and immediately delivered. Cox 3

In a record-breaking August performance against Alice Lloyd, Cox orchestrated a masterclass in efficiency, netting two goals and providing an assist to lead her team to a 12-0 victory—the largest margin in recent program history. Her five points in that single match solidified her position as a leader on a roster hungry for success in the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC).

Before donning the blue and red in Bluefield, Cox was a standout at Pulaski County High School. A member of the Class of 2023, she earned Second Team All-District honors as a Cougar and was a visible leader on the field. Cox 4

Her transition to the college game was nearly seamless. As a sophomore in 2024, she led the Rams in scoring with 4 goals and 2 assists, accounting for nearly a third of the team's total offensive output for the season. Whether it was scoring the team’s first goal of the year in Florida or fighting through 90-minute defensive battles against conference rivals like Reinhardt, Cox has remained a focal point of the Rams' attack.

Sara has started in 56 of the 58 games she’s played in since starting her time at Bluefield University.

Cox's impact extends into the classroom and the local community. An Exercise and Sport Science major, she has maintained the same discipline in her studies that she shows on the field.

Her academic foundation was established early. At her high school graduation, she was honored with the Janis Carter Scholarship, a local award from Snowville Elementary recognizing her potential and character. At Bluefield, she balances the rigors of a student-athlete lifestyle, appearing in the starting lineup for nearly every match while pursuing her degree. Cox 4

When she isn't competing, Cox remains connected to the sport through the Virginia United club team and explores creative outlets like photography and painting—traits of a well-rounded student-athlete who represents the best of Southwest Virginia.

As the Rams look toward the remainder of their 2025-26 campaign with their spring matchups, they do so with a proven playmaker at the helm. For Cox, the goals are simple: keep moving forward, both on the scoreboard and in her career.
