The Salem Spartans established dominance from the opening whistle Tuesday night, utilizing an aggressive defensive front and a significant height advantage to secure a 54-26 victory over the Pulaski County Lady Cougars.

The tone was set early when Salem’s Lexie Hart drew a foul and sank a free throw with 6:50 remaining in the first period. From that point on, the Spartans never looked back and never trailed. Salem’s suffocating defense kept the Lady Cougars off the scoreboard for the entire opening frame, building a commanding 14-0 lead.

Pulaski County finally broke the scoring drought with 7:19 remaining in the second period when Elly McDonald hit a free throw to put the Lady Cougars on the board.

Salem’s offensive attack was spearheaded by the duo of Gabby Crawley and Emma Custer, who each poured in 17 points. Crawley was particularly effective in the first half, accounting for 11 of the team's 23 points heading into the locker room. Bailey Rider also reached double figures for the Spartans, contributing 12 points in the win.

The Spartans' height and physicality proved to be the deciding factor, as they routinely disrupted Pulaski County's passing lanes and limited second-chance opportunities.

Despite the early deficit, the Lady Cougars showed flashes of offensive rhythm in the second half. Pulaski County nearly doubled its scoring output in the final two quarters, led by the grit of Elly McDonald, who finished with a team-high 7 points.

The Lady Cougars didn’t see much scoring, but what they did generate was balanced contributions from several players. Paylyn Sweet and Ellis Russell each added five points. Jasmine Dalton contributed four points in the fourth-quarter effort. Cha Cha Ratcliff and Raiven Hughes each chipped in two points.

A bright spot for Pulaski County was their late-game persistence. The team played their most productive basketball in the fourth quarter, scoring 11 points—their highest-scoring period of the night. This late surge demonstrated a never quit attitude against a Salem defense that remained aggressive until the final buzzer.

In the preliminary junior varsity matchup, the Salem Spartans completed the road sweep with a 44-30 victory over the Lady Cougars.

E. Warren led the way for the Salem JV squad with 10 points, followed closely by E. Hairston with 9 and I. Imagina with 8. The Spartans utilized a strong second quarter, outscoring Pulaski County 13-5 to take control of the contest heading into halftime.

The Lady Cougars' JV team was paced by a standout performance from Charisma Jones, who netted a game-high 13 points while also recording eight rebounds and three assists. Jovi Perdue joined her in double figures with 10 points and three rebounds. Despite a spirited 12-point third quarter that cut into the lead, Pulaski County was unable to overcome Salem's consistent scoring across all four frames.

Pulaski County will hit the road for their next two games, with a trip to Magna Vista set for Thursday and a trip to Hidden Valley set for Friday. The next home game for the Lady Cougars will be Monday when the varsity squad hosts Patrick Henry at 6 p.m.
