With only two matches left in their season, the Pulaski County Middle School golf team has gone under the radar, but still managed to dominate their opposition on the way to a perfect 7-0 record.

The team has a good mix of players, including eighth-graders Evan Singleton, Mikey Gonzalez, and Will Rackaway. Seventh-graders Noah Allen and Hunter Norman are joined by sixth-graders Owen Viers, and Aubrey Bower to round out the team.

Singleton, who competed in the Blue Ridge Junior Golf Tournament tour during the summer and won his age group and the overall Sportsmanship Award at Pipestem Resort State Park, has been the medalist (first place) in each of the seven events this season for the Cougars. His score at each match was the lowest score out of all players competing in each tournament.

Singleton, along with Gonzalez, Rackaway, and Viers have been the key scorers for the Cougars in most of the matches this season, but the other players have advanced their games as well.

“We play some different formats for our matches depending on the school and course,” Head Coach Chase Dunnigan said. “Some are nine-hole matches and some are six-hole. Most of the kids grind and play most of the year if they can. They also compete in summer junior tour events before our season begins, so it's no surprise to me that they all played so well this year as a team.”

The team has beaten Blacksburg, Scott Memorial, Fort Chiswell, Christiansburg, and Rural Retreat in various matches to this point of the season. They have matches remaining at Galax Wednesday, September 20, with a 4 p.m. start time, and a match at Wytheville Thursday, September 21, with a 4:30 p.m. start time to finish up the season.
