The Pulaski County Middle School volleyball team got back on the winning track on Wednesday evening as they knocked off Christiansburg for the second time this season. However, it was not as easy as it first seemed it would be.

In the first set, the Cougars jumped out to an early 7-0 lead as they rolled on to beat Christiansburg, 25-9. However, in the second contest, the Cougars fell 25-20 to send the match to a tiebreaker which the Cougars won, 15-13 for the win. The victory pushed the Cougars’ record to 5-2 on the season.

The Cougars were perfect from behind the service line in the first set, led by Lainie Cobbs. Cobbs finished 9-for-9, while Jovi Perdue was 8-for-8, Riley Shepardson was 4- for-4, Chloe Thompson 2-for-2, and Comley Meyer and Kara Tabor were both 1-for-1.

Meyer led the Cougars’ offensive attack with four hits, while Kiylee Taylor and Abby Bishop each added two, and Shepardson and Perdue each chipped in one. Perdue and Cobbs combined for eight assists and four tips. Meyer and Shepardson were the top passers.

Perdue finished 5-for-5 from behind the line in the second set. Cobbs and Taylor were both 4-for-4, Thompson 3-for-3, and Meyer and Shepardson were both 2-for-2 as the Cougars were again perfect from the service line. Unfortunately for the Cougars, they had nine serve reception errors and four hitting errors that hurt their offensive attack. Meyer finished with four hits, Shepardson three, and Thompson one. Perdue and Cobbs teamed for seven assists and four tips.

In the tiebreaker, Tabor was 4-for-5 from the line, Perdue 3-for-3, Abby Bishop 2-for-2, for PCMS. Meyer led the Cougars with seven hits, Shepardson added four, and Thompson one. Perdue and Cobbs combined for 10 assists and three tips. Perdue was the top passer.

In the B game, Maria Sanchez was 6-for-6 from the line, Addie Phillips was 5-for- 6, McKenzie Robinson 4-for-4, and Sophia Exconde 3-for-4 for the Cougars. Zaley Manss, Robinson and Exconde each had a hit. Top passers were Exconde, Robinson and Vivian Hash.
