In an exciting match on Thursday evening, the Pulaski County Middle School volleyball team upended Read Mountain on the team’s 8th grade night. The Cougar spikers lost to Read Mountain in a close contest early in the season, but this time the Cougars would not be denied. The Cougars posted a 26-24, 16-25, 15-10 victory for their 11th win of the season.
In the opening contest, Read Mountain jumped out to an early 14-7 lead, but the Cougars fought back to tie it 15-15. It was close the rest of the way and was tied at 24- 24 before PCMS put it away. Lainie Cobbs led the Cougars from behind the service line, going 5-for-5. Riley Shepardson finished 5-for-6, Comley Meyer 4-for-4, Jovi Perdue 4-for-5, and Vivian Hash 3-for-4. Chloe Thompson and Shepardson each tallied three hits, Perdue added two, and Meyer one. Cobbs and Hash teamed for eight assists and four tips. Perdue and Hash were the top passers.
In set two, Hash turned in a 4-for-4 performance from the service line, while Shepardson was 3-for-3, Cobbs was 2-for-2, Perdue 2-for-3,Kiylee Taylor was 1-for-2, and Meyer and Thompson were 1-for-1. Thompson had four hits, while Perdue and Shepardson each chipped in one. Cobbs and Hash combined for six assists and three tips. Top passers were Thompson and Shepardson.
In the tiebreaker, Shepardson and Perdue were both 4-for-4 from the service line, Hash was 3-for-3, Cobbs 2-for-2, and Meyer 1-for-1. Meyer collected two hits, and Thompson one. Hash and Cobbs notched five tips and the top passer was Meyer.
The Cougars made it a sweep they claimed the B game, 25-21. Kara Tabor was 5-for-6 from the line, Axton Davis was 4-for-6, Sophia Exconde was 4-for-4, Addie Phillips 3- for-3, Zaley Manns 3-for-4, and Abby Bishop 2-for-2. Maria Sanchez recorded two hits and Bishop had one. Davis and Phillips teamed for five tips.
The Cougars will travel to Floyd on Monday.
