PULASKI- Despite having just two hits in the first contest against Floyd, the Cougar spikers of
Pulaski County Middle School pushed their record to 4-0 on the season. The Cougars posted a
25-5, 25-13 victory over the visiting Floyd squad.
Riley Shepardson led the Cougars from behind the service line in game one, going 9-for-9,
while Lainie Cobbs were 7-for-7 and Maria Correa was 6-for-6. Shepardson and Comley Meyer
had the only two hits for PCMS. Raegan Dean was the top passer.
In the second contest, Abby Bishop went 8-for-8 from the service line, Zaley Manns was 5-for-6,
and Addie Phillips finished 4-for-5. The Cougars collected 12 hits with Manns and McKenzie
Robinson each with three, while Shepardson, Bishop and Meyer each added two.Cobbs,
Phillips and Ava Thompson combined forces for 10 assists and five tips. Top passers were
Shepardson, Meyer, and Bishop.
In the first extra game, the Cougars won 25-22 and took the second one, 15-3. The first contest
was close the entire way until things were tied at 22-22 and PCMS called time out. The Cougars
went back to the court and scored the next three points for the win.Laila Sigmon finished 6-for-6
to lead the Cougars from the service line. Thompson was 4-for-4, Axton Davis was 4-for-5, and
Quinn Austin 2-for-2. The Cougars tallied nine hits, lead by Dean and Robinson each with three,
and Austin, Sigmon and Davis each with one. Thompson and Davis teamed for four assists. The
top passers were Dean and Davis.
In the second game, Ava Cash went 11-for-11 from the service line for PCMS and Dean was 3-
for-3. Austin and Robinson each had two hits, and Cash added one. The top passer was
Thompson.
The Cougars will travel to Blacksburg on Monday.
