Members of the Pulaski County High School Lady Cougar basketball team were recognized for their accomplishments at the Tuesday, April 12, meeting of the Pulaski County School Board. The team has made it to the VHSL State Playoffs each of the past four seasons, earned the River Ridge District championship the past two seasons, were Region 4 Champions the past three seasons, and were 4A State runners-up two of those seasons. This season they finished with a record of 24-4. Recognized Tuesday were Ally Fleenor, Courtney Cregger, Erin Russell, Hailey Capps, Hannah Keefer, Jaden Lawson, Keslyn Secrist, Morgan Vest, Taryn Blankenship, Tori Vest, Paige Huff, Andi Ratcliff, Caroline Bishop, and Reese Nolan. The Lady Cougars are coached by Head Coach Scott Ratcliff and assistant coaches Shawn Lawson, Rick Secrist and Jennifer Ratcliff.


Pulaski County Public Schools would like to recognize James Johnson and Bruce Keller for being selected to the All-Virginia Choir. The Virginia Choral Directors Association sponsors All-Virginia Chorus each year. There are 16 districts in the Commonwealth of Virginia and each sends a total of 24 delegates to All-State; 16 students from each district participate in the Mixed Chorus while eight delegates from each district participate in the Treble Chorus. All students who audition for All-Virginia must first be selected to participate in All-District Chorus. After this, they are eligible to audition for All-Virginia. Students must place first or second in their voice part to be selected as an All-state member. James Johnson is a PCHS junior who placed first in the Tenor 1 division. Bruce Keller is a PCHS junior who placed second in the Bass 2 division. Both students will travel to Richmond on April 21-23 to represent Pulaski County High School and District 7 as members of the 2022 All-Virginia Chorus. They are members of the Mixed Chorus which will be under the direction of Dr. Paul Head from the University of Delaware.


Congratulations to PCHS junior James Johnson for being selected to the Summer Residential Governor's School that will be held at Radford University. This three week, Theatre Intensive Program will allow him to develop his craft, work with other outstanding theatre students from across the state along with professors and guest artists. James and the rest of the PCHS Theatre Arts Department recently completed their production of Peter and the Starcatcher. They'll be presenting their final show of the school year, Pirates of Penzance, April 28 through May 1 at the PCHS Little Theatre. Details coming soon.

***UPDATE*** Pulaski County Middle School eighth grader Cole Boone has finished second in the 800 with a time of 2:02. In case you didn't see the first post about Mr. Boone or the post about Diego Turner from Friday, these are finals from the Adidas Track Nationals at Virginia Beach. NATIONALS! The future of Cougar track and field is very bright!


Congratulations to PCMS student Cole Boone, who took third place in the 400-meter race today at the Adidas Track Nationals in Virginia Beach. His time of 54.04 was an outstanding accomplishment as he represented Pulaski County. Tomorrow he’ll be running in the 800-meter race. GOOD LUCK COLE!!


Pulaski County High School, in conjunction with LewisGale Hospital Pulaski, will again be providing sports physicals to Pulaski County Public School students who will be enrolled in the 6th through 12th grades during the 2022-2023 school year. The physicals will take place at PCHS in the Career and Technical Education Building on Wednesday, May 4, beginning at 3:20 p.m. The cost will be $10 dollars and students should arrive with their Virginia High School League physical form (pages1, 2 and 4) completed and signed by both student AND parent/guardian. Parents, please be aware that to participate in school sports during the 22-23 school year, student physicals MUST BE DATED 05/01/22 OR AFTER. Physical forms are available in the front offices of Pulaski County High School and Pulaski County Middle School, or can be printed at vhsl.org In an attempt to expedite this process, the start time for current PCHS students is 3:20 p.m. Current middle school students should arrive no earlier than 4:15 p.m. to prevent overcrowding and congestion.


Congratulations to PCHS junior Diego Turner, who just finished in second place in the NATION at the 2022 Adidas Track Nationals in Virginia Beach. Diego recently won a VHSL State Championship in shot put during the indoor track and field season.


Get out and support your Pulaski County athletes today! As a reminder, the PCMS baseball and softball games scheduled for today against Scott Memorial have been postponed.


Come out to support the PCHS Fine Arts Department as they present "A Night At The Movies" Thursday, March 31, at the PCHS Little Theatre.


March is Athletic Trainer awareness month. We want to thank our Pulaski County High School Athletic Trainer, Mr. Adam Viet, for all his hardwork and dedication to Pulaski County High School athletes and athletic sports teams. Mr. Viet has worked countless hours day in and day out to provide care for our students and give these students the best possible chance to play their sports while remaining healthy and active. Mr. Viet also teaches at PCHS and has a block long two semester class where he gives an introduction and basic knowledge to our students who are interested in the ever-growing field of sports sciences and athletic performance and health. Pulaski County High School would like to thank Mr. Adam Viet!!


Pulaski County Public Schools and Pulaski County High School were proud to honor the 2021-2022 Competition Cheer team at the most recent School Board meeting. The cheer team had a great season winning awards at the 2021 Competition Cheer Region 4D Champions, the team's fourth consecutive Region championship. The team also saw eight All-Region Athletes recognized (five first team, three second team) and PCHS member Kimberly Lyons was named the 2022 Region 4D Cheerleader of the Year. Five members of the Pulaski County squad were also selected as All-State Athletes (all five first team). Team members include senior Kimberly Lyons; juniors Lacey France, Sydney Heller, Laiken Landreth and Olivia Viers; sophomores Alyson Buchinsky, Katrina Collins, Claire Dunnigan, Kadance Gravely, and Madalyn Hedge; and freshmen Kendall Bullion and Ella Hoback.


Pulaski County Public Schools and Pulaski County High School were proud to honor the Cougar indoor track and field team at the most recent board meeting for their outstanding season. The Cougars finished as the Region 4D runners up and were third at the 4D state meet, only 9.5 points out of first place and half a point out of second place. Two Cougars earned individual state championships at the state meet. Senior JJ Gulley earned gold in the high jump, breaking the school record with a jump of 6’5”. Junior Diego Turner earned state gold in the shot put with a throw of 51’ 5.25”. Senior John Lyman finished third in the long jump, fourth in the high jump, fifth in the triple jump, and eighth in the 55-meter race. Senior Armonte Hill-Lewis finished as the state runner up in the long jump and earned sixth place in the triple jump. Senior Keyontae Kennedy finished 10th in the state in the triple jump. Junior Quemaar Porter, along with Kennedy, Lyman and Hill-Lewis, took ninth place overall in the 4x200-meter race. The Pulaski County School Board was proud to recognize the PCHS Wrestling team on a great season. PCHS Wrestling competed in the 4A Region D Championships and at the 4A State Meet. Molly Keller, a junior, was the state runner up at the Virginia Girls Championship Tournament. Junior Evan Alger placed first in the 4A Region D Championship and third in the State Tournament. Junior Gavin Warner and sophomore Xavier Ramsey placed second at region and qualified for state competition. Junior Nicholaus Golden placed fourth at regionals and qualified for state competition. Sophomore Austin McNeil placed fifth at the regional meet and was a state alternate. Freshman Shawn Head placed sixth at the regional meet. Senior Ryan Bird, in his first year of wrestling, also competed at the regional meet. The Pulaski County School Board was pleased to recognize the JV Girls Basketball team at the meeting Tuesday, March 8. The younger Lady Cougars completed a perfect 17-0 record for an undefeated season. This was the second consecutive undefeated season for the JV squad, with the year before that only having one loss.
